Simone was introduced to the sport by her daycare teacher Aimee Borman, when she was 6 years old. She was a student at Bannon's Gymnastix for 11 years. Biles took home a gold medal for floor exercise and a bronze in vault at the women's Junior Olympic National Championships in 2010 before breaking into the elite level of gymnastics in the year 2011. Two years later, she was a dominant competitor in the sport. Biles was notable for her consistent performance, exuberant persona, and the difficulty of her routines across all four events including vault, uneven bars, and balance beam.
